Trail View State Park is set on 400 acres that links the Nassau/Suffolk Greenbelt Trail from Cold Spring Harbor State Park on the north shore to Bethpage State Park on the south shore of Nassau County. The State of New York got the land in the 1960s and wanted to use it as a parkway to connect Caumsett State Historic Park to Bethpage State Park. It was made a state park in the summer of 2002 with a number of recreational programs and opportunities on its beautifully hills and open fields. There are many different types of habitats and undeveloped natural resources. There are hardwood forests, marshes, and succession fields from between 60 and 300 feet above sea level. Sometimes visitors can cross-country ski or ride horseback. Other attractions include biking paths, nature trails, a bridle path, and hiking trails. If you are coming from Nassau County or the New York City area with your cheap car rental, take either the Northern State Parkway, the Southern State Parkway or the Long Island Expressway (495) east to the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway (135). Then go north to the Jericho Turnpike east. Take the Jericho Turnpike (25) east past two traffic lights. The entrance will be on the left side of the road with parking right there.

Caumsett State Historic Park is the former residence of Marshall Field III. It was a combination of country club, hunting preserve, and estate complete with its own water and electricity supply. It could be used for any sport except for golf. The park here has fishing, hiking, bird watching, nature photography, and nature study.
The Walt Whitman State Historic Site is a museum that seeks to help you learn about this American poet and legend through its educational programs, museum, and trails. Attractions here include audio-visual programs, hiking trails, a picnic area, group tours of the historic site, a visitors center and museum, and a gift shop.
Bethpage State Park is best known for its golf courses, including the Black Course which was home to the U.S. Open Championship in 2002 and which will host the 2009 U.S. Open. There are also picnic facilities, playing fields, tennis courts, bridle paths, hiking and biking trails and cross-county skiing trails in the winter.
