Montauk Point State Park is a heavily-wooded tundra on the eastern tip of Long Island at the historic Montauk Lighthouse in Montauk. Located at the tip of Long Island, it is at the site of the oldest lighthouse on Long Island, and the oldest in the state as well. It is interesting to note that the lighthouse was originally built 297 feet from the edge of the bluff, but erosion has had a huge effect on the area and the lighthouse is now only 50 feet from the edge. Almost $1 million has been spent on the site to protect it from future erosion by brining in boulders and terracing the site. Throughout the summer the museum is open throughout the week during the day, weather permitting. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children, and $6 for seniors.
