The New York Rangers
Hockey has been a New York past time ever since the 1926-27 season when the city was granted an NHL hockey franchise. In the teams sophomore year the Rangers played hard and won the Stanley cup, becoming the last team to accomplish such a feat! With innovative tactics and clean, hard play the New York Rangers went on to become "the classiest team in hockey" making it to the Stanley Cup finals four times in six years. In fact, in their first 16 season the Rangers only missed the playoffs once, and only twice did they fall to a place lower than third. The Rangers became the stuff of sport dynasty back in their early days and New York loved it! Today the Rangers are still a force to be reckoned with, showcasing talents like Jaromir Jagr and Bobby Holik. Due to unresolved negotiations the 2004-05 NHL hockey season has been cancelled, much to the sadness of many New Yorkers. But you can also plan on catching a game next season at the historic Madison Square Gardens. The Jets
The New York Jets are one of five teams in the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference of the NFL. Formerly called the Titans, the Jets are a team full of energy and excitement. In 1969 the Jets recorded one of the greatest upsets in NFL history when they beat the Baltimore Colts in Superbowl III. ( Coming up Superbowl XLV )The New York Jets are a football team in the NFL as park of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference. Although they are based in New York, they play their games at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Club History
The team was originally called the New York Titans when they began in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. They were renamed the "Jets" after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963 and then joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger. The Jets were the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game in Superbowl III.
The years 1965-1969 were the glory years for the Jets. They signed quarterback Joe Namath, which was great for the team when he chose to sign with them instead of the St. Louis Cardinals. The AFL's deal with NBC made the team one of the hottest teams in the league at the time. They were able to attract fans to the game from all over the country. When the Jets won Superbowl III, it was one of the high points of the club. They were able to show that the AFL was capable of playing with the NFL. When the Jets moved to the NFL, their first game was also the first game for Monday Night Football. Come on down to the stadium to catch a game with your New York City Exotic car rental.
In the 1970s, the Jets did not have a good record for winning and did not make it to the playoffs until 1981. They did this with the passing and touchdown skills of Wesley Walker and Jerome Barkum, as well as the defensive skills of Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko.
In 1984, the Jets moved to the Meadowlands as the second football team to play there. It was considered to be one of the best in the NFL at the time though, so it was a good move for the team. They still play here today, if you want to come down with your cheap car rental to catch a game. This allowed the Jets to create more revenue and bring out more fans than they were able to at Shea Stadium.
