This park is situated on a peninsula extending into the Long Island Sound. It is located in Huntington, a short trip from New York City with a Van Rental. There are miles of bridle paths; walking, jogging, hiking, biking, and nature trails; cross-country skiing in the winter; and much more here. In 1921 Marshall Field II bought 1750 acres of land to make one very large estate. It had an English-style estate, with a country club, hunting preserve, and home. It even had its own water and electrical supply. It could accommodate any sport except for golf.

The land was acquired by the state in 1961 and made into a park. There are guided tours of the natural environment, with a focus on the Long Island area. There are horse-riding lessons from the polo pony bar, as well as boarding and equestrian services. The historic Henry Lloyd Manor House, built in 1711, is leased to the Lloyd Harbor Historical Society, which provides historic interpretation for the colonial period. The park is open all year, however there is a parking fee for your Van Rental from April thru November.

Special Events

At the end of June, Caumsett State Park will host a Shakespeare in the Park event. For 2006 the play is "The Taming of the Shrew", which begins at 5:30p.m. There is a repeat performance in mid-August.
The Summer Run Series takes place at the end of July and the beginning of August, which is a 5 kilometer race that begins at 7:00p.m.

Directions

Take Route 495 east to Route 110 North with your Van Rental. Go to Route 25A, then go west on West Neck Road. Follow West Neck Road to the park where you will find parking for your Van Rental.
