New York Van Rentals and Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village, or the Village, is a largely residential neighborhood on the west side of downtown Manhattan. The neighborhood is bordered by Broadway on the east, the Hudson River of the west, Houston Street on the south, and 14th Street on the north. It is very close to the East Village, SoHo, and Chelsea. With a New York Van Rental you can see the Village.
Greenwich Village was once a hamlet separate from Manhattan and its layout is different from the rest of the city. The streets don't seem to be ordered like they are in the rest of the city. They sometimes curve at weird angles and are very narrow. The streets here are also named instead of numbered.
Greenwich Village is best-known for its bohemian culture. There are many artistic residents who live the bohemian culture, although it is not as prominent today. It is still an area that is seen to be an area where new movements can grow - political, artistic, and cultural. Jack Kerouac was one of the representatives of the area, with its hippie-like lifestyle in the 1950s. In the 1960s it became part of the folk music scene. The Mamas and the Papas met there and Bob Dylan lived there. Today, when you visit with your New York Van Rental, you will see how the area challenges mainstream American culture.
The cost of living in the Village has gone up, making the bohemian lifestyle slowly disappear. Instead, the artists have moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Long Island City, and New Jersey. But the area still has a strong community identity and a liberal attitude.
Washington Square Park is the main attraction to visit with your New York Van Rental. Here you will find many statues of important historical figures and other well-known people. The area has many other green spaces that are great to explore while walking around the area. Another famous park is "The Cage", with easy-to-access basketball and handball courts. This is where many tournaments take place in the city.
There is a strong performing arts scene in the area as well. There are many Off-Broadway theaters, including the Blue Man Group. And, if you like jazz music, the Village Vanguard hosts some of the biggest jazz acts. Or, you can visit The Boston and Comedy Cellar with your New York Van Rental to see where many stand-up comedians got their start.
The sitcom Friends took place in the Village with the exterior of the apartment on Grove Street and Bedford Street in the West Village, which you can see with a New York Van Rental.
While you are in the Village with your New York Van Rental, you may want to pick up a copy of The Village Voice. It is a very popular weekly newspaper that features investigative articles, current affaire, review, event listings, and much more. Greenwich Village is a great place to see in New York.
