Travel during low season. Accommodations are most costly and line-ups
for major attractions, long. The first week in December and the first week
of January are the least crowded weeks of the year at Walt Disney World.
These times are also the least expensive. Take adVantage of low season
rates.
Stay on site. You'll save time and energy. Disney offers accommodations in
all price ranges. Some of the less-expensive resorts offer limited food service,
such as a food court, rather than full-service restaurants.
Pack your own meals. If you book one of the larger accommodations that are
designed for families, you can use the kitchenettes in studio units or full
kitchens in the larger one and two-bedroom units. While these accommodations
are, generally, more expensive, you can save considerably by preparing your own
meals.
Plan a family reunion. Often there are group rates for booking airline
tickets and accommodations.
Purchase multi-day passes. Passes save up to 20 per cent over single day
admission tickets. Walt Disney World offers three and four-day Park Hopper
passes as well as five, six, and seven-day Park Hopper Plus passes. The Park
Hopper pass gives you unlimited admission to The Magic Kingdom, Epcot,
Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom on the days indicated on the
pass. Check to see if you qualify for special discounts.
A little planning can go a long way. Take the time to plan and you'll have a
more enjoyable and affordable holiday.
History
Walt Disney's vision for Disney World was of a larger, more expansive version
of Disneyland.
Walt Disney World was projected to be a futuristic exposition that showcased
scientific and technological breakthroughs alongside with the original Disney
vision of themed entertainment.
Walt Disney wanted to build a working community where his ideas about urban
planning could be tested. He called this concept the "Experimental Prototype
Community (or City) of Tomorrow," or EPCOT. Epcot, however, has little
resemblance to this original vision.
In 1966, Walt Disney died. He never got to see the realization of his vision.
Walt's brother Roy named the resort after his brother instead of the original
name of "Disney World."
Properties
Most of the Walt Disney Company's Central Florida land, and all of the public
areas, are located in the Cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista. These
properties are located southwest of Orlando and a few miles northwest of
