How Queens Museum came to be
The New York City Building, which is home to the museum, was actually built to accommodate the NYC Pavilion at the World Fair in 1939. It was built to hold displays of municipal agencies and was one of the few buildings that was built to stay there permanently. At the end of the World Fair, the building was turned into a recreation center for the Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The portion of the building that now houses the Queens Museum used to be home to a roller rink. Aymer Embury III was the architect in charge of this building and he designed it in a modern classical style. The theme of the World Fair was, ironically, the "World of Tomorrow". The building was covered by glass brick and had corner blocks made of limestone. After two more World Fairs, the north side of the building was made into the Queens Museum in 1972. In 1994, it was drastically renovated to include some of the most spectacular exhibitions New York has ever seen.
A Look Back at NYC

Getting to the Queens Museum in your New York car rental from Manhattan you will need to take the Midtown Tunnel to the Long Island Expressway. Use Exit 22B, Grand Central Parkway West toward the Triboro Bridge. Exit the Grand Central at the first exit, Tennis Center (9P), turn right and follow signs to the Museum.
Taking your New York car rental from Brooklyn via Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) to LIE Eastbound, to exit 22B exit 22B (Grand Central Parkway/Triboro Bridge), then exit GCP at Tennis Center (9P) and turn right to the Museum.
