Connecticut Things To Do

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Connecticut is a picturesque state, filled with rolling hills, historic destinations and quaint villages. Conveniently located near New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, you can plan an outstanding vacation by renting a car and cruising through New England.

Below is a breakdown of the regions in Connecticut with various things to do across the state. Starting in Coastal Fairfield, a drive through the state is one you will remember for years to come.

Coastal Fairfield
Begin your adventure by renting a car in Coastal Fairfield. Located on the southwestern tip of Connecticut, this area is just a stone’s throw away from New York City. This area offers miles of beautiful coastline and picturesque New England countryside. Here you’ll find plenty of shopping, museums, nature preserves and lighthouses. It’s hard to believe this quiet country getaway is not far from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.

Litchfield Hills
Drive north to Litchfield Hills and you’ll feel like you are riding through the pages of a history book. A great place for history buffs, Litchfield Hills offers historic points of interest at every turn. An abundance of museums are available for the family and the region also has a rich heritage of cultural and performing arts, in part thanks to the close vicinity to New York. Enjoy musical productions, classical theater and orchestra performances while you’re visiting this area.

River Valley
Just a short drive east from the Litchfield Hills region, the next stop is River Valley. This region offers charm and beauty combined with big city sophistication. History, culture, sights, rivers and gorgeous shorelines make this area a great destination for a long weekend getaway. Some ideas for your itinerary include a historic tour through Wethersfield, the Chocolate Flair Excursion, and Hartford (here you can visit Mark Twain’s quirky home).

Greater New Haven
Next stop, drive south to the Greater New Haven Region, home to Yale University. Get ready for outdoor adventures. With plenty of hiking, biking, boating and beaches, you’ll be able to enjoy activities for the entire family. This region is also full of culture and offers exhibits, events and performances year-round.

Mystic Country
After all of the excitement Greater New Haven has to offer, drive south to Mystic Country and you’ll be able to relax and enjoy scenic farm roads, charming villages and ancient stone walls. Browse through art exhibits, tour a winery or visit the Mystic Aquarium while you’re there. Here, you’ll find a wealth of activities for all ages and sizes.
