Memorable Summer Events Roll Into Connecticut This Weekend

With August in full swing and the end of summer quickly approaching, this weekend is the perfect time for a family getaway at unforgettable Connecticut events. Make your way to downtown Milford Friday evening and all day Saturday for the 35th annual Milford Oyster Festival. On Friday, go on a Schooner cruise across Long Island Sound or enjoy an oyster and wine tasting. The fun continues Saturday along the harbor with canoe & kayak races, live entertainment, a food court serving up several varieties of oysters originating from Maine to Virginia and oyster eating and shucking competitions. Saturday, bring your family to Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill for a prehistoric adventure during Dinosaur State Park Day. Guests have the chance to meet Dilly the Dilophosaurus, play games, experiment with arts and crafts, dance to the live music and enjoy good food and the indoor and outdoor features of the park. All weekend long, visit the Lyme Grange Fairgrounds to experience an old-fashioned country fair with farm exhibits, amusements, food concessions and more. The family fun at the Hamburg Fair includes pie and watermelon eating contests, face painting and pony rides. Also, don’t miss the 1800’s western reenactments and blacksmith demonstrations happening each day! Waddle your way to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk this weekend for a chance to get up close and personal with the Aquarium’s African penguins during the “Penguins on the Loose” event. Visitors can sit and stand around a special mat, while the penguins are invited out to wander, explore, preen and generally do what penguins do.

Unforgettable Experiences Await at Connecticut Events This Weekend!

Celebrate the beginning of peach season in Connecticut at Lyman Orchards this weekend. Family fun activities will line the grounds including Frisbee golf, face painting, horse drawn wagon rides, scavenger hunts, a sunflower maze and much more. Lyman Orchards is cultivating fun this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Head to the Beardsley Zoo for a weekend of fun that includes two major events. All weekend, the Zoo will spread the important messages about endangered species, animal habitats, extinction, rainforest destruction, our environment and what we all can do to save the planet during the Topical Illusions event. On Sunday, children under age 12 who bring their teddy bear to the “Teddy Bear Clinic” and are accompanied by a paying adult will receive free admission. The clinic will include crafts and storytelling focusing on bear awareness and facts about real bears. Get your teddy bear ready this Sunday between noon and 3 p.m., then go green during the Topical Illusions event Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Make your way to the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford for a weekend of excitement and family fun. Colorful and competitive dragon boat races will begin at 8 a.m. followed by a day of entertainment and activities. Join in on the festivities with Asian entertainment, martial arts demonstrations, a table tennis tournament, Asian games for kids and more! Be a part of the celebration Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., with Dragon Boat races starting at 8 a.m. each morning.

August 15 – Steeple Chase Bike Tour– Windham Mills, 320 Main Street, Willimantic, CT 06226.
