16-Passenger Sprinter Van Shuttle Van Daimler’s New Line
Sunday, April 4th, 2010Daimler Launches a 16-Passenger Sprinter Van Shuttle Van
Daimler Vans, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz USA, is offering a 16-passenger Sprinter Van specially designed for hotel service, paratransit and similar applications.
The Sprinter is now offered in 2500 and 3500 models. The full-sized, heavy duty vehicles are assembled at Daimler Vans USA’s plant in Ladson, S.C. Daimler further plans to expand its Sprinter lineup with the introduction of the 16-passenger van. A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson confirmed that four different interior configurations will be offered on this new vehicle. Among them, one will have a wheelchair lift that can accommodate eight passengers.
The van is offered in four 15- and 16-passenger seating capacity, plus the driver. The traditional sliding door has been replaced by an electrically operated split passenger door. The vehicle is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V-6 engine which produces 188 horsepower and 325 pounds feet of torque.
The Sprinter van has been sold by selected Freightliner dealers since 2001. Some selected Mercedes-Benz dealers have been selling cargo, chassis cab and passenger van Sprinter models since January 1. The vehicle can be ordered directly from a Mercedes-Benz dealership or Freightliner dealership. The vehicle is expected this summer. No pricing has been announced yet.

Four Versatile Configurations
The Sprinter Shuttle Van is available with a choice of four seating configurations:
•Airport Shuttle – Perimeter seating for 15 passengers, plus driver as well an 80-inch 2-tier luggage rack.
•Commuter Shuttle – Forward-facing seating for 16 passengers, plus driver and optional video equipment with monitors ranging from 11- to 17-inches.
•Hotel Shuttle – Forward-facing seating for 15 passengers, plus driver and rear luggage area with fixed dividing wall.
•Paratransit Shuttle – Available with side or rear wheelchair lift, the ADAcompliant shuttle offers multiple wheelchair positions and forward-facing seating for up to 8 passengers, plus driver.

The highly successful Mercedes-Benz Sprinter made its European debut in 1995, and a newgeneration Sprinter was launched globally in 2006. Since 2001, the Sprinter has been sold in the U.S. by Freightliner, the industry’s leading manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty trucks in North America.
Mercedes-Benz USA began offering the Sprinter line through select Mercedes-Benz dealers in 2010. Both MBUSA and Freightliner are divisions of Daimler AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles. In the U.S., the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is targeted toward small businesses, while the Freightliner version continues to be available to its established customer base of commercial vehicle operators.
