Family finds multi-million-dollar car in reclusive doctor’s garage
A reclusive doctor surprised his relatives with a valuable collection of rare vehicles after his death, the Evening Chronicle reports from Britain.
Inside what they thought was “an ordinary suburban lock-up,” the paper says Dr. Harold Carr’s heirs found a 1937 Bugatti Atalante that hadn’t been driven since 1960.
The dust hid other classics, too, including an Aston Martin and a Jaguar.
BBC News says the Bugatti, one of just 17 Type 57S Atalantes ever built, has 26,284 miles on the odometer.
It goes under the hammer next month in Paris. The Times says it may fetch more than $8.7 million.
“The Atalante is incredibly original and, although she requires restoration, it is ‘restoration’ in the true sense of the word. From my perspective, save for some of the interior, all original parts can be restored or conserved in order to maintain originality,” James Knight of Bonhams, the auctioneer, says.
