New York Car Rentals and Ground Zero
While the term "ground zero" refers to a place where an explosion, natural disaster or other traumatic event has occurred, in New York it has come to mean something much worse and more horrific than anyone could have predicted. It was used after September 11, 2001 by journalists to refer to the site where the World Trade Center formerly stood. Instead of the buildings, only a pile of rubble remained. Today, "ground zero" refers to the void today where the buildings once stood. If you would like to come down to Ground Zero with your New York car rental to honor those that lost their lives.
A Day of Infamy
The September 11 attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States and the first time international terrorists showed how present they were in the United States. Nineteen men crashed two planes into the World Trade Center, causing them both to collapse. There was another crash into the Pentagon, and a fourth that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. That plane was thought to be heading to the White House, but the exact destination is unknown. Approximately 3000 people died in these attacks, the largest on American soil. The attacks were denounced throughout the world and there was an outpouring of sympathy. This is a very emotional place for many people to visit with their New York car rental. Even if you did not suffer loss in this tragic event, you are sure to remember where you were and what you were doing when you first heard the news of the attacks, as well as the live television footage that played for weeks following.
Project Rebirth
Project Rebirth is a project that is dedicated to the rebirth of Ground Zero by photographing the site every five minutes until it is reconstructed. The film will go to a memorial.
With your car rental in New York City you can visit the former site of the World Trade Center. The memorial was planned in the immediate aftermath of the destruction to mourn the victims and honor the heroes of that day. It will be located at the site of the World Trade Center where the Twin Towers once stood. Located in downtown Manhattan, it is easy to get to with a car rental in New York City. The title of the memorial is Reflecting Absence. It will be made of two voids that reside in the original footprints of the Twin Towers surrounded by a forest of oak trees. Each void holds a pool of water filled by waterfalls on all sides. Visitors then descend 30 feet to galleries underneath the waterfalls inscribed with the names of those who died. Construction began on March 13, 2006 to some protests from families wanting an above ground memorial, but it continues. Go down and see it with your car rental in New York City.
Ground Zero is a very emotional trip for many in their New York car rental, but it is a very inspirational place to see as well. Come here to honor those who were victims and those who were heroes on a day that will not be forgotten.
