Cheap Car Rentals and Hempstead Lake State Park
Hempstead Lake State Park is a great park for those who like to do a lot of different activities throughout the day once you get here with your cheap car rental. There are 20 tennis courts, playgrounds, basketball courts, bridle trails for horseback riding, biking trails, hiking trails, and a hand carved wooden carousel. There are shaded areas for picnics and a picnic pavilion for larger parties.
Built along three ponds in West Hempstead, this park in Nassau County is located on the largest lake there. You can use car top boats with an annual permit from the park to fish, or you can fish from the shore. Unfortunately you can't take home your catch - fishing in Hempstead Lake is by catch and release only! So bring your fishing gear with you in your cheap car rental so you too can relax while fishing. In the fall there is trout in the McDonald and South Ponds, as well as large mouth bass, chain pickerel, black crappe, perch, tiger muskies, carp, and sunfish throughout the year.
Aside from fishing, there are bike trails, hiking trails, many types of playing fields (tennis courts, playgrounds, basketball courts), boat launch sites, recreation programs, horseback riding, and more. In the winter there is ice fishing and cross-country skiing as well.
Special Events
Throughout June there is a weekday tennis tournament in the early evening and is open to anyone who wants to participate.
In early June, Hempstead Lake Park will be part of the Summer Run Series with a four kilometer race starting at 7:00p.m.
In late August there is a Salt Water Fly Fishing Fair where you can learn fly fishing techniques. There is also a distance casting competition, equipment demonstrations, and local fishing guides available from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.
In late October there is a Fall Freshwater Fishing and Children's Festival. This is a family-oriented event that includes face painting and pony rides for the kids, as well as outdoor fishing exhibits and demonstrations for the adults. Come dressed warmly, it may be a little chilly!
Directions
West Hempstead is easy to get to with a cheap car rental. All you have to do is take the Southern State Parkway to exit 18 in West Hempstead. Parking is available there for your cheap car rental.
