Conversion Van Rentals and Long Island Wineries
Long Island is in a great location for making wine, and there are a lot of wineries here because of that. The maritime climate and soil conditions are ideal for making great wines. So, if you are visiting Long Island with a conversion van rental and would like to visit some wineries, you are in luck! There are more than 30 wineries producing wine on 3000 acres of land. Although there are wineries all over the island, most can be found on the North and South Forks at the east end of the island. You can tour this area with your conversion van rental to sample great wines and have the opportunity to buy them directly from the producer.
A Growing Industry
The first modern winery was founded in 1973 when the first vinifera vineyard was planted to make cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, and sauvignon blanc wines. It was owned by a couple who had 17 acres of land for their winery. Today there are 60 vineyards, with 30 open to the public. They specialize in many different types of wines too: cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, chenin blanc, dolcetto, gewurztraminer, lemberger, malbec, merlot, petit verdot, pinot blanc, pinot gris, pinot noir, riesling, sangiovese, sauvignon blanc, semillon, shiraz, tocai friulano, and viognier. Twenty six of the wineries open to the public are on the North Fork, 3 on the South Fork, and one is in western Suffolk County. They are all within an hour or and hour and a half drive of where you are staying on Long Island with your conversion van rental.
American Wine Tradition
Wölfer Estate is a very well-known vineyard and producer of wine. Located in Sagaponack, they are at the heart of the Hamptons and easy to get to with a conversion van rental. A visit to Wölfer is a must for any wine lover. There you can take a tour of the facilities and learn about the wine-making process. Then you can sample their wines and buy some to take home. They use a classic style of making wine that resembles the old European method. Choose from reds, whites, dessert and sparkling wine, or special bottles for gifts. On Thursday nights they even have gatherings where you can sample wine and cheese while meeting new people. There is also live music at this event.
Premium Wines
Many vineyards produce premium wines, but Sherwood House is dedicated to only the finest wines. They specialize in limited quantities of premium wines that are featured on wines lists and in cellars of the finest restaurants. Located on the North Fork, this vineyard has just recently opened a tasting room for people to enjoy. Come on down to Mattituck with your conversion van rental. It is located just off Highway 48. At the tasting room you will often find the owners talking to customers and signing bottles.
Long Island is the ideal place for a wine lover because of all the wineries located within such a short distance of each other. With your conversion van rental you can explore the many different types of wines produced in the area and even bring home a few bottles for your collection right from where they are made. Whether you are looking for that special bottle of wine or you are just interested in learning more about the wine-making process, you are sure to find it on Long Island!
