Museum of the City of New York is an art gallery and museum of history founded in 1923 in Manhattan. It can be found at the northern end of the Museum Mile between 103rd and 104th Street with your New York City car rental.

Museum City of New YorkThe museum has a large collection of paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs of New York City, as well as decorative objects and furniture, toys, rare books and manuscripts, marine and military collections, police and fire collections, and a theater collection to document the golden age of Broadway. The Museum of the City is best-known for its collection of photographs, including works by Jacob Riis and Berenice Abbott, as well as many Depression-era Federal Art Project photographs. The museum also houses many of the furnishings from the house of John D. Rockefeller. There are more than half a million photographs in the collection. This is a great place to come see with your New York City car rental.
The collection of costumes and textiles contains over 27,000 garments and accessories worn by New Yorkers from the 17th century to the present. For example, there is a collection of clothing worn by fashionable New York women with the Parisian couturier Charles Frederick Worth. There are also holdings by significant New York designers in the 20th century.
For the collection about Broadway, they have some of the original sets and costumes from designers such as Donald Oenslager and Jo Mielziner. There are also posters and window cards for advertising plays.
For the toys collection there are over 10,000 toys and amusements used by New Yorkers since the Colonial Period. They have a Stettheimer Doll House from the 1920s with a miniature art gallery of original paintings and sculptures from artists of the period. There are also antique dolls, toys, games, and puzzles, books, puppets, and much more.
Past exhibits at the museum include Transformed by Light: The New York Night, The Mythic City, Harlem Is... Music, and New York Comes Back.

Historical MuseumThe Museum of the City is located at 1220 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. They are normally closed Mondays, but remain open on holiday Mondays such as Memorial Day and martin Luther King Day. It is easy to get to with your New York City car rental or by the subway, which takes you to a block from the museum. The suggested admission is $9 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Children under 12 are free, and on Sundays from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. admission is free for everyone. Parking is available nearby for your New York City car rental.
