Conversion Van Rentals and Long Island Facts and Figures

Long Island is conveniently located on the southeastern tip of the State of New York near Manhattan. It is made up of Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau County, and Suffolk County and it has a population of 2.6 million people. However, people usually think of ?Long Island? as only Nassau and Suffolk Counties because Brooklyn and Queens are part of New York City. The island is only 118 miles long and 20 miles wide. It is accessible by plane, train, and bus service, but the best way for you to travel and make your trip your own is with a conversion van rental. To the north is Long Island Sound, separating New York from Connecticut and Rhode Island. To the south there are a number of bays, which are actually lagoons, protected from the ocean by barrier islands, Fire Island being the most notable. To the east, the island splits into two forks separated by the Great Peconic Bay. The western end of the island is connected to the mainland and other islands, such as Staten Island, by bridges and tunnels for motor vehicles and trains. It is easy to get to New York City with a conversion van rental.

101 Reasons to Visit

Well, maybe not that many will be listed here, but there are many things to do on Long Island. There is surfing, beaches, fishing, nature preserves, camping, professional sports, historic sites, horseracing, sailing, nightlife, shopping, golfing, ice skating, and much more! There are more than 20 art galleries, several theater groups, many concerts, and art shows if you are looking for a cultural experience. There 16 lighthouses, 114 museums and historical sites, 11 mansions open to the public, 5 zoos, and 3 amusement parks if you are looking for a little fun. If you like sports, there are the New York Islanders hockey team (NHL) and the New York Saints Indoor Lacrosse team to go watch. And as if this is not enough, there are hundreds of small and medium towns that welcome people from all over. They each have their own character with different attractions. Every town is within a couple hours by conversion van rental, so you wont spend your entire trip driving. Instead you can relax and enjoy your vacation and still see the area.

The Story Behind Long Island

Long Island was settled by the Dutch in the west and the Puritans in the east. Interestingly in its early history, it was the site of several witch hunts. During the American Revolution, the island was captured by the British, and was only lost near the end of the war. Many people in the area were loyal to the British empire at the time. When you travel around the island in your conversion van rental you may hear a slight similarity between English and New York accents, although this is getting more difficult to hear. In 1897 Kings and Queens counties were incorporated into the city of New York. Part of Queens County rejected the proposal and became what is now Nassau County. Nassau and Suffolk Counties form what is commonly referred to as ?Long Island?.

The Big Apple

Manhattan is close to most towns and easy to get to with a conversion van rental. The I-495 will take you straight into the city where you can enjoy the many attractions, shows, and restaurants. Also, New Jersey is just across the Hudson River by conversion van rental.
