The Long Island Game Farm located in Manorville is the largest combined zoo and encounter park on Long Island. Here you can see and learn about wildlife and animals by observing them in their natural environment. Some of the best attractions include 18-foot giraffe, red kangaroos, kinkajous, cougars, Barbados sheep, peacocks, and the only lemurs born and bred on Long Island. You can learn about many more animals as well on nature trails such as ?Bambiland?, ?The Nursery?, and ?Old MacDonald's Farm?. There are many interactive areas where you can touch and feed the animals. For kids, there are carnival-style rides such as the Spinning Teacups, a train, and an antique carousel, as well as pony rides. Parking is available for your conversion van rental.
This year, the Big Cat Encounter is returning for the fourth time! It features exotic lions and tigers in the amphitheater twice a day from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You'll get to see them perform and learn about these animals. Between shows you can catch them in the ?Big Cat? viewing area playing.
To get to the Game Farm with your conversion van rental, take the Long Island Expressway to exit 70. Head South off of the exit onto County Road 111. If you are going east on the Long Island Expressway make right off exit, or make a left if you are going west. Go approximately half a mile to the traffic light. Make a right onto Chapman Boulevard. The Long Island Game Farm is approximately 1.5 miles on your left.
Making Learning Fun
The Ecology Center and Animal Preserve in Holtsville is another place you can visit with your conversion van rental. They feature buffalo, mountain lions, eagles, children's petting zoo; ecology exhibits and tours; free compost; greenhouses; picnic area. Admission is free when the park is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Scheduled tours are available, but advance scheduling is necessary. If you can't arrange a tour, there are self-guided tour books too. There are over 100 injured or non-releasable wild animals and farm animals you can view, as well as a greenhouse with many types of plants.
There is also the Suffolk County Farm and Educational Center. Not only is it there for people to learn, but it is a real working farm! Located in Riverhead on Long Island, this it is easy to get to with a conversion van rental if you are staying on the east end of the island. Here you can explore a bit of Long Island history as well, since parts of this farm has been around for over century. There is also information on modern agriculture. There are educational programs for both kids and adults here, so be prepared to learn a little while you are here.
