Shadmoor State Park is located in Montauk on the South Fork of Long Island. It is very easy to get to with a cheap car rental. The name comes from the thick shadbush growing in the park. There is a beach, biking trails, salt water fishing, and two concrete World War Two observation bunkers for New York coastal defense. Part of the park was also part of Camp Wikoff. This is where troops were quarantined after the Spanish-American War, including Theodore Roosevelt. There is not a lot of infrastructure here except hiking trails, so this is truly a place where you can enjoy nature once you leave your cheap car rental.

The park is made up of ninety-nine acres of beautiful parkland with 2400 feet of ocean beachfront property. Only one quarter-mile east of Montauk Village it is accessible with a cheap car rental and it is near many other great activities. The bluffs and freshwater wetlands are part of the nature preserve. There are also hiking trails, elevated platforms for bird watching and looking at the shoreline, picnic areas, and saltwater fishing. The nature trails include black cherry trees and sand plain gerardia plant. They are open all year long with parking available for your cheap car rental.

Directions

With your cheap car rental, take Route 27 (Sunrise Highway) east to Montauk Village. The park is one-half mile east of the village on the right, at the southwest corner of Route 27 and Seaside Avenue.

There is also The Montauk Point Lighthouse which includes a museum, tower, and gift shop. Located at the tip of Long Island, it is at the site of the oldest lighthouse on Long Island, and the oldest in the state as well. You can look out over the Atlantic Ocean from the point. It is interesting to note that the lighthouse was originally built 297 feet from the edge of the bluff, but erosion has had a huge effect on the area and the lighthouse is now only 50 feet from the edge.
The beaches around Montauk are rated some of the top beaches in the country, so be sure to check them out with your cheap car rental when you are in the area.

Shadmoor State Park is a peaceful location to feel part of nature with the beautiful beaches, great saltwater fishing, peaceful nature trails, and much more.
